In keeping with the theme of capturing the “darkness” within the city and its people, Kasper employs strong contrasts in his black-and-white photographs. At the same time, inspired by his admiration for the Baroque artist Caravaggio, he uses dramatic contrasts between intense light and deep shadow to create a powerful visual impact in his work.
The “Darkness”
Portrait is not merely about depicting how an individual looks; it should also reflect the spirit of its era and reveal the relationship between people and society. This relationship does not have to be harmonious—it can be complex, conflicting, or even contradictory. More than a simple portrait, it is an exploration of the interplay between the individual and their environment, examining the connections between personal identity and the surrounding landscape.
